Sports words for Imposter

It is not a football deck, and the football lads find that out quickly. The list runs from darts to synchronised swimming, with a Mexican wave somewhere in the middle.

The joy of this deck is that nobody is an expert in all of it. The mate who can explain offside has nothing to say about Curling beyond the fact that the whole country watches it for one fortnight every four years and then forgets it exists. It is not only sports, either: Sports Day, the Mexican Wave and the Mascot are in here too, and they make some of the best rounds because everyone has a memory attached. Egg and spoon, anyone?

Every word below is dealt in the Antics app. The easy hint is what the imposter sees on the default setting; the hard hint is the harder tier. Playing from this page with paper? Give the imposter one hint or none, your call.

How to run a sports round

  1. Unlock Sports by following Antics on TikTok or Instagram from the Imposter lobby. It costs nothing.
  2. Select it, pass the phone, everyone peeks.
  3. Clue round. No famous players and no teams: name a sportsperson and the round becomes a quiz the imposter can win by guessing.
  4. Miming is banned, and that goes double for the Mexican Wave.
  5. Vote, then give a caught imposter one guess. "Something with a ball" does not count.

The hardest sports to bluff

The trickiest words look alike from the sofa. Judo and Karate are both in the deck, and to most of the room they are two people in white pyjamas; add Wrestling and the imposter has three ways to be wrong with one guess. The events are sneaky too. A Hat Trick is not a sport, it is something that happens in one, and an imposter who spends the round describing a whole match gets caught by one precise clue. The app deals the imposter a hint each round, Easy by default. Easy then hard: Hat Trick: Goals / Rare. Judo: Grappling / Respect. Mascot: Costume / Sidelines.

Who the Sports deck suits

Football lads, obviously, and it is good for them. They walk in confident and leave having been out-clued on Synchronised Swimming by the one mate who has never watched Match of the Day. It is a strong pick for a sunny afternoon in someone's garden, and a decent one for a sporty family, since the Olympics and Wimbledon are common ground for most generations.

Do I need to know a lot about sport?

No, and knowing a lot can hurt you. Experts give technical clues that the rest of the room reads as suspicious. The best sports clue is something your gran would say.

How do I get the Sports deck?

Open Imposter in Antics, tap Sports in the lobby and follow us on TikTok or Instagram. That opens it for free, together with Brands and Logos.

Wimbledon and the World Cup are not sports. Why are they here?

On purpose. Some words are events, moments and characters from sport rather than the games themselves, which gives the imposter more to guess between and keeps the crew's clues from being obvious.

Pick a side. One of you is faking it.

The Sports deck unlocks free in Antics when you follow us. Pass one phone and find out who has never actually watched the cricket.
